I see so many people getting Social Security for disabilitys and they are still working 40 hrs. a week, just like before. They don't appear to have anything wrong with them. How do they qualify for disability if they can still work? People around here get it like handing out candy or ice cream. No wonder our budget is in deficit! Why do people get Social Security for being disabled and still work? Doesn't disabled mean you can't work?
If they are collecting disability, and are working 40 hours a week report them because, you are not allowed to work over 20 hours when you are labeled disabled. If you know who these people are then report them to Social Security. I know the reason why they allow some to work because some people on disability are on it for mental reasons, or physical reasons. The mental reasons my hinder them from working certain jobs, but not others that are not as demanding. Physical disability could affect a person that works in a warehouse, but will enable them to work a desk job part time. they allow the extra work as a form of supplemental income to offset earning guidelines. If the person is able bodied, and working a normal 40 hours work week then they are lying to the Social Security Administration, and should be reported. You can call anonymously. Why do people get Social Security for being disabled and still work? Doesn't disabled mean you can't work?
that is the problem with such a large bureaucracy, it is impossible to monitor it adequately. Those who receive disability and work are breaking the law.
Some people work really low impact, low stress jobs because they're prevented from working high impact, high stress jobs but still want to work. Some people are in a lot of pain and can't overexert themselves. They qualify for SS but want to ';keep busy';.
Are you looking in their mail boxes? How do you know what everyone is doing and what everyone is getting? I think your blowing smoke and TROLLING!!!!!!!!!
People want social security so that when they turn 65 (or whatever the age is - I'm not completely sure) they will receive all the benefits of it. In other words they will get paid a salary for the rest of their lives at the retiring age from the government, without actually having to work.
They are not supposed to work if they are collecting disability checks or only work a certain amount of hours. They must be getting paid under the table, or they are on a special program that helps them return to work. It wouldn't bother me if you reported them.
There is different types of disability with social security. I have a friend who was under 18 when her mother died, she is now in her thirties and suffered through a major health issue-which she was informed she could get her mothers benefits. i am not sure how that worked quite yet-but she is back to work part time and getting the benefits her mother worked for.
yep it does but they are some forms of it that dont mean you cant do something like maybe have bad legs and cant walk far dont mean you cant sit behind a desk and type ..... but they are far more people that are getting it ..than one who really needs it... system should be reworked many years ago i know one who has six kids have never work a job longer tan a couple weeks but yet she makes about has much as i do... she pays no bills its all payed for her she get all her food for free rent now that makes me mad and it should be if you want help here a job start pushing this broom
umm...I think a lot of that depends on how good or how crooked your attorney can be.
How do you know they are collecting Social Security for being disabled AND working? You have no way of knowing because that information is protected under the privacy act, so stop making up lies about people.
Ever heard of Karma?
That's because you have to make X=$ per week to have your benefits interrupted I believe it's 30hrs or so.
Some persons with disability's do work ,but because they have a disability they are some times employed on a lesser wage than others doing the same job,so Social Security pay the difference so they can make a livable wage, Rather than sit at home a Social Security paying them the whole wage to live on, as many with disability's can lead very productive lives and by social security helping cover part of their pay encourages employers to take them on despite their disability
Remember the people with disability`s could sit at home and wait to be looked after but choose to have a go and work which should be encourage by society
Remember not all disability's can be seen they range from mental problems through to physical handicaps
Being disabled doesn't mean you can't work. I am disabled and I work. I don't get Social Security.
Some people work and have high medical expenses and still can get a full or partial social security payment.
You don't know people's individual history. It is very hard to get on Social Security and it very hard to rip them off.
you are wrong disabled doesn't mean can't work but Not able to do something, a special task such as walking for some in a wheelchair but they can still work.....If they are on Social Security they are allowed to work but cannot cumulate both to a certain amount....Social Security is then reduce to meet the minimum income......or they are working on the side and are not declared by their employer and then we have problem.
disabled doesnt mean you cant work, im disabled but i can still work, im only 16 so i dont get benefits, but it doesnt mean you can never work, but means you may meed support or take periods of time off due to your condition, so the benfits accumulate to help when you have this time off, i think it is handed outfor nothing sometimes cos my mum has oestrio (cant spell it) artheritis has she is only 38 she wanted a permit to park in the diabled stops for winter etc when its hard for her to move, they wouldnt give it to her however they gave this woman one because she went in a wheelchair, butwe saw her the next week walking, i know having a wheelchair doesnt mean you cant walk, but if she was that bad a week ago to be in a chair i dont think she would be walking up a hill with no support that quick...sorry bout the little rant lol
i have M.E n cant wrk at the min but will be returning to work ,employers have to by law employ ppl with dissabilitys,i cant do what everyone else can but does that mean i dont have the right to work?
Such ignorance!
Most people with disabilities still have SOME abilities, and if they are lucky enough to find an employer who's willing to give them a chance, it's often for an underpaid %26amp; meaningless job.
The government subsidises that pitiful wage, to bring it up to the minimal national wage.
How can YOU judge someone elses disability??? What about psychiatric disability? You can't SEE it! At least 50% of people suffering from mental illness can work, but their work is adversely affected by their disability.
Disability benefits are DIFFICULT to get, you need to be tested by THEIR Doctors [can't even choose your own Doctor], %26amp; get run through the mill - you have to PROVE you have a disability.
It's a humiliating %26amp; distressing process.
Trust me, the government just isn't ';into'; handing money out like candy or ice cream. They won't even hand out candy.
There is actually a program that SS has where a disabled person is allowed to work even if they are on SS.
No having a disability does not mean you can't work at all.
But that you are restricted in the type of work you can do.
Depending on what area is effected by the person disabilty
They may be able to work 40 hours but they could be on supported wages.
There is also sickness allows and mobility allows too.
When you earn over a so much your DSP is reduced.
Should I also tell you of all the paper works and test
And every 3 year they test you again just to make sure you still have a disability.
I agree with kevinmcleanblack! I really dislike people who worry about what other people are getting and doing. Why does it concern you? If you really want to see where all of our tax dollars go; look at NASA and our military. Oh, and of course I forgot all the other countries we help to ';rebuild'; after we have destroyed them, not to mention bringing their citizens to this country and paying them reparations. Get off it! ...and get your nose out of every other horses ***.
I get ssdi but I can work part-time because of my disabilities that prevent me from working full-time. If I had to work full-time I would more than likely be very rude and I wouldn't be able to help it but because of my disabilities I can work part time and still be polite to the public.
Some people still qualify for both because they have a mental/emotional handicap and they make under a certain amount of money, or they work extra to pay child support, and although it's a no-no, some work ';off the books'; and don't declare their income to keep up with the high cost of living.
No,being disabled soesn't mean you can't work. That is an old myth--a stereotype. And it is flatly untrue. Also--not all disabilities are visible (e.g., myself--most people don't realize I'm legally blind until I tell them). Perhaps you should try learning something about these issues before you sound off--because, no offense, but you don't know what you are talking about.
There are specific rules about working while on disability. They provide tha ta person can earn a limited amount of money. When/if an individual reaches the point where they are able to earn more, they do't continue to et disability payments.
I'm Disabled and Get Social Security And I Know The Rules When You Work So Many Hours You Lose Money From The Amount That You Get.
thats not true disabled dose not mean you cant work.......i have friends that are disabled but do work.....he had a major back accident that left him with 4 bad disks but he works........He recieving social security.
Are you doing the banking for these disabled people? Is that how you would know if they are receiving a pay cheque and this Social Security at the same time?
You should put your energy into doing some volunteer work among the disabled or unfortunate. This would be a good lessong for you to learn. Disabled people have a hard time in life and people like you make things much worse for them.
This is very mean spirited.
yes it is but sometimes they beat the system and sometimes it isnt enough money you just dont know but its on them not on you
Obviously, you are not disabled. Disability benefits are not handed out like candy. If you are disabled, you have to prove it to the SSA, using their doctors. They will test and retest you, and more people are denied than approved. If you are approved, your Social Security benefit is determined, like it would be at retirement, upon your wages and the number of quarters worked. For a person who has worked all their lives, that could be roughly 1/3 of their take home pay at the time they became disabled. After you are approved for disability, you must wait 2 years to begin Medicare. That means for 2 years you are without a job and without insurance. If you need to see a doctor (and you will) it's all on you to pay out of your pocket. If you can actually find someone to hire you, you must notify the SS board. You are allowed to work 20 hours a week at minimum wage and not to exceed $800.00 a month. Won't be getting rich on that, will they?
If you ever lose the ability to work as you normally do, then you will have a very different tale to tell. I am disabled....uncontrolled hypertension (PPH), COPD (never smoked), partial blindness due to macular degeneration (progressive), and degenerative joint disease. Prior to leaving the work force, I was a highly trained nurse, working 12 hours shifts. I would much rather be working.
In order to qualify for SSI you have to have a documented disability that prevents you from working enough to make over a certain amount of money. If a person has a disability and has an anual income that meets the requirements (like a few thousand a year) they can qualify for SSI.
And no, disabled DOESN'T mean you can't work. People have all different kinds of disabilities and many of them are still able to work full time. Many people with disabilities don't get SSI.
There's probably more to the stories of the people you're thinking of than you think.
They are allowed to work, but it is usually a a much lower paying job then they were able to do before. I believe they are able to make up to $850.00 a month, and anything over that is deducted from their disability checks.
The deficit is not caused by disabled people.
And Social Security did not cause the deficit.
