What job is it when you research and try to cure, and or work with people in an asylum?

I know its psychology, but what kind of psychology, and does anyone, if you know what kind, how many years of college that is?What job is it when you research and try to cure, and or work with people in an asylum?
Biological psychiatry; is the actual study of psychiatry that aims to understand mental disorder in terms of the biological function of the nervous system, and that would be at a PhD level, which could take several years (hard to say but it could take up to 6 - 10 yrs ) a BA in the field (4yrs.)

To actually work with mentally ill clients in a Psychiatric Hospital can be done with a Bachelor's or a Master's degree. Really it depends on what you actually want to be doing. There are so many choices. Psychiatric hospitals have jobs available in everything from Case Management ( assisting the client with daily living skills and preparation for discharge from the hospital) to Activity therapists, Art therapists, Psychiatrist. There are other opportunities out side of the hospitals as well. In the 1960's the United States started ';Deinstitutionalization'; which means that those hospitalized are only hospitalized until they are stable enough to live in the community once again. Unfortunately with the way our health care system works many of the mentally ill population are ';rushed'; back out into society, Case Managers are the clinical professionals that help these individuals find housing, monitor medication, assist with socialization, and just about everything you can imagine.

Hope this info helps you out. What job is it when you research and try to cure, and or work with people in an asylum?
Most psychology professionals who work in asylums are PhD level clinical psychologists or psychiatrists.

Of course, there are many exceptions, particularly in the support staff which helps the psychologists with paperwork, and routine tests and tasks.
