Really...If someone wants to go postal and shoot the s**t out of a school or a goverment building full of innocent people. How is a registry supposed to work.. people in Canada have always had to have a FAC to possess a gun plus a restricted licsence for handguns. that does involve a interview with a firearms officer(police usually) I know for a fact I could buy handguns or ';assault rifles'; locally and for a cheaper cost than going through all the b.s required now....And another question...aside from the shooting in Taber AB , why do all these rampages happen in Quebec where support for this s**t is highest....jes wondering...Is there really that many people in Canada who think the Gun registry is working??
Nothing short of knowledge of the future will prevent some person from committing an act of total destruction of those around them and themselves.
What a gun registry or strict gun laws does do, it prevents guns from ending up all over the streets without regard. It makes people take firearm security seriously and does a lot to prevent an escalation in gun related crimes.
NYC has seen an incredible drop in gun related crimes since the stricter gun laws have taken effect.
But no law or punishment will prevent a person hell bent on committing a crime from doing so, it just makes it harder to do.Is there really that many people in Canada who think the Gun registry is working??
There are two separate gun registries in Canada, the long gun and the small gun. The long gun is the one that is being abolished. This is just a registry for rifles and sport weapons. Generally crimes are not committed with a shot gun.
With regards to handguns and smaller firearms, a registry will still be intact. It aids in curbing things like illegal sales of fire arms. It forces the gun owner to be accountable for their weapon at all times. That in itself is a good thing.
