Why do people work so much in American and how do you feel about it?

My cousin who lives in Germany works EIGHT days in a month. NO LIE. And we Americans work 40 hours a week....8 hours a day, sometimes more. We almost have no downtime to spend with our families, just enjoying life. Watching our kids grow up. We are workaholics who always feel the need to stay busy. In Europe, people work to LIVE....whereas WE live to WORK.

Is it because of capitalism? And how do YOU feel about it?Why do people work so much in American and how do you feel about it?
worker bee system, the belief that the more people are pushed, the more they will produce, despite the studies that indicate otherwise. In China even, nap time is encouraged in the work place...IN most european countries, the government pays mothers to stay home and care for their infants for the first year or two of life. I think our expectations are insane. I think our society is functioning on an insane level of expectation. But, until I own my own company where I can run it the way a company should be run, I cant really do anything to change our society....Why do people work so much in American and how do you feel about it?
America was built on hard work....!!
The U.S. still has (in some ways) a ';free market'; economy. Although there *is* a minimum wage, it still allows many employers to pay an ';economic'; wage rather than a ';living'; wage. If there is a large supply (labor) and little demand (jobs), economics puts the salary at a low level. This means a worker has to work *much* to earn a living. This is somewhat supported by laws which require little paid vacation and fewer paid holidays.
I think part of the problem is the Greed illness.

Filthy rich people pay as little as possible so the hard workers have to work so many hours just to earn a 'decent' living.

There are too many millionaires and billionaires in the States.

How do i feel about it? Sick of it.
