How does Jesus whipping people work with an idea of peace or turning the other cheek?

Is there a line that is crossed to justify the whip?

Did he repent of it?

Who paid for his sin?

Just curious, no offense intended. How does Jesus whipping people work with an idea of peace or turning the other cheek?
The Bible is kind of Bipolar. In the Old Testament he's depicted as this angry, vengeful deity. Then when you get to the New Testament he's depicted for the most part except for a few instances as this kind person who says turn the other cheek etc. I just think it's funny. I would ask did he take Prozac in between the Old and New Testament because there's kind of a conflict there. Even in those few instances when he shows a more angry side of him in the New Testament it pales in in relation to raining fire on Egypt, murdering the Canaanites and raping their women etc. I'm sorry I just think the Bible is funny in that it punishes every generation of man and animals for the simple crime of eating a fruit. How does Jesus whipping people work with an idea of peace or turning the other cheek?
He was whipping the love into them.

I *LOVE* you! (whoopaw!)

I *LOVE* you! (whoopaw!)

I *LOVE* you! (whoopaw!)
That story is one of the few that demonstrates that the popular picture of Jesus as a squeaky-clean boyscout type is inaccurate.
Where was this in the Bible
you have that backwards. the people whipped him, Jeusu did not whip anybody so id love to know where you got that from.
Not to mention the way he treated the gentile mother in Mt. 15 like a dog..

Or how he sent 2000 pigs to their deaths, decimating an entire town's economy...then not replacing the animals, as his dad's own law commands..

Anyone who thinks that Jesus is a suitable role model has never actually read their bible.
I'm not asking with the implication that you are mistaken, but could you please tell me where that is in the bible? i've never read that anywhere. i know he became angry once and overturned tables in the temple, but that's the only case i know of
Actually, this is a great passage. You should read it.

Jesus, upon finding that the moneychangers were rampant in the temple went out and sat down and made himself a whip. Then he drove the people out of the temple, but did not release birds and other animals that could have gotten away, resulting in a loss to their owners.

He was angry, clearly. But he was in control of his anger, and did not sin. He was also considerate of those he was angered by, even when angry.

Man, that's a great example!
Jesus was whipping people out of the temple. God can kick people out who come to His house with the idea that they can use it as a place to rip people off who come to offer sacrifices for their sins. There is a difference between putting up with a slap on the cheek and allowing robbers to use your house to ply their trade.
Two words: righteous indignation.
He never whipped anyone, and the line that was crossed was by the religious establishment, who were leading otherwise innocent people to destruction by preaching that salvation comes from being obedient to the Law (which even they themselves could not keep), and not solely as a gift from God.

There is a deeper spiritual message that applies to the churches of today regarding 'works' based Gospels. They all teach you must believe, repent, have faith, etc, but fail to realize that none of that matters unless it comes from God Himself. God has tolerated that, but declares and has proven, it won't go unchecked nor unpunished.
Jesus never sinned. Jesus never whipped anyone. He paid for our sins with His death, and before He died, He was whipped multiple times.
whipping

turning the other cheek

hmmm

Im sure there is a joke in all that somewhere.
First, the cheek turning is when people do violence to you. Second, yes the people crossed a line in the temple and were cheating people trying to be obedient to God's law. Third, in your anger sin not. He did not sin so no forgiveness was needed. If you read the entire passage carefully you would see why he did what he did.
He drove them out, it dose not mention that he actually hit anyone!!
This passage is found in John 2:13-

I think you have the concept of apathy instead of peace. With apathy nothing matters, therefore you can do anything and well...it just don't matter. To have peace a group of people must be in harmony with each other, respecting others, serving others before self and so on. Jesus whipped those people that were serving themselves first, taking advantage of the poor by false scales and refusing to let people enter if they did not buy a sacrifice from the ';money changers'; Jesus drove them out with the scourge to remove the puss from the wound so the wound may heal properly and the body become whole once again.

Did he repent of it? Who paid for his sin? Jesus did not have a reason to repent because he was sinless.

maybe an example from my own life would help?

when I was single, a good friend of mine was a new christian and having a very hard time. He married a ';christian'; women but she was anything but that. One night he came over to my house and was 1/2 drunk. He started demanding $5 from me but I would not give it to him. I was outside at the time. He then started saying I was commiting adultry with his wife trying with all he had to make me angry to get me to fight him. He even backed me up againt the wall and slapped me openhanded quite hard. I had a screwdriver in my back pocket and could have used it, but I chose not. finaly he just left. a few years later i saw him in another city. His wife left him and he moved away from all that junk and was living for God, doing well. He told me of that night and apolligized, he then told me that if I had fought him then he was going to ';quit God'; because if I got that way then there was no God.

That time peace was made by me being ';passive';, however since I am now married with children, If someone were to hurt my little ones, well...God help me not to break his commandment.

Did you know being meek was not being ';wimpy';? Some one who is meek would have the power do destroy something but choses to use the least bit of that power to correct a wrong.
Anger itself is not sin. The Bible did say ';In your anger do not sin';, but did not say anger is sin. Only when your anger turns into an emotional outburst will it be considered sin, since you lost control over yourself that you became irrational and your actions could hurt people, emotional and/or physical.

Turning the other cheek means not to avenge yourself when hurt or persecuted, but instead withstand the suffering.

The Bible did not say Jesus whipped people, it only said that Jesus ';made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area';. He could have just used the whip to hit the ground or something but did not hurt anyone, the Bible does not say what the whips were used for.

The idea of peace is to love one another, and real love means disciplining a person so that they will learn, have the chance to repent, and not suffer the consequences.
In the Bible there are four accounts of Jesus ';cleansing the Temple'; and I believe three of them (in Matthew, Mark and Luke) refer to the same event; toward the end of His ministry. The fourth account seems to have occurred EARLY in His ministry and this one (recorded in John) is the ONLY one where it is said He used a ';whip.';

The word ';whip'; in John 2:15 is the Greek word fragellion... neuter of a derivative from the base of fragellow... a whip, i.e. Roman lash as a public punishment:--scourge.

Jesus NEVER ';whipped people.'; He did however, use a whip to chase the corrupt ';money changers'; out of the Temple. Those folks were using ';religion'; to take financial advantage of those whom they were given the responsibility to teach and lead and guide.

If Jesus actually whipped A PERSON, the accounts are silent about the matter as far as I know. Have I missed something?

As Jesus did not whip people (as He was whipped by the Romans) the remainder of the questions asked are moot.
Jesus whipping people? He turned the other cheek to show that it doesn't matter what people say or do. The idea was to transcend the ego, which Jesus did. The resurrection showed us that we too could transcend the ego and achieve what Jesus did. The body is not important, it is the Spirit that is eternal.
